HEYDAR ALIYEV BAKU DEEP WATER JACKET FACTORY - POSITIVE CHANGES GIVE HOPE
The total capacity of the factory, 60,000 ton of steel structures per annum, enabled to fabricate 4-5 jackets depending on the sea depth.
The factory reached its design capacity in April 1984. The first deepwater platform jacket was launched from their slips and dispatched to the installation place in August 1985. By and large, from the commencement of work 12 deepwater jackets designed for depth of up to 141m were fabricated and launched from slips (4 slips, each 420m long) intended to fabricate and launch jackets for fixed offshore platforms (FOP).
Provided with high-technology and state-of-the-art equipment, the factory yet in 1991, together with one of foreign companies operating in Azerbaijan, successfully enforced the contract on the fabrication of over 3,000 ton of steel structures. These works were performed in a high-quality manner and in compliance with western standards, thus reinforcing the foreign investors' trust in the factory.
The ‘Contract of the Century' was signed September 20, 1994 owing to Heydar Aliyev's prescient policy.
Starting 1995 the BDWJF jointly with specialists of McShelf commenced the work on reconstruction of modules of FOP #1 as one of phases under Chirag first oil production project.
In 1996 by BP's request and under Petrofac's subcontract we in the shortest time fabricated and handed to the customer 305 ton of steel structures for Chirag platform module support frame, and under Tekfen's subcontract 2,800 ton of elements for four 25,000 cubic meters capacity tanks at Sangachal Terminal.
By the order of Singapore-based Caspian Shipyard Company LTD in 1999 the BDWJF commenced the work on fabrication of hull for Gurtulush jack-up rig and Heydar Aliyev Mobile Floating Drilling Rig designed to perform exploration drilling at the sea depth of up to 200m. 2,300 ton of steel structures were fabricated and handed over to the customer under this contract.
Two areas of the BDWJF were allotted for the construction of major platforms under the Phase 1, 2 and 3 of the ‘Contract of the Century'. The jackets were fabricated together with BosShelf and topsides with McDermott. Involving high-skilled welders and fitters acquiring experience from foreign specialists over the long years the factory fabricated, launched offshore and brought online, in a quality and timely manner, jackets for Central Azeri and West Azeri, each 14,00 ton, 17,000 ton jacket for East Azeri, as well as the related topsides. The 16,500ton jacket for deepwater Guneshli is almost complete.
Both the BDWJF's work with foreign companies and in other shops and areas meet today's requirements.
From the top of this year the factory started manufacturing welding electrodes, type E grade QE 51.01 and type E 6013 grade QE 43.01. The BDWJF electrode shop capacity is 2,000ton electrodes per annum.

This step of the Head of State positively influenced the living standard of oilmen in Azerbaijan. Thus, due to the above-mentioned enactment since February 2007 the leadership of SOCAR has raised wages of oilmen by 25%.
During IQ 2007 the output per employee amounted to AZN 9.2 thousand, which is AZN 5.2 thousand higher vs. IQ 2006, whereas the production workshop output per employee amounted to AZN 25.3 thousand, which is AZN 17.3 thousand higher compared to the respective period of the elapsed year.

In turn SOCAR takes constant care to relieve the problems of our employees. Enhanced wages and provision of material aid of various kinds can serve as a bright example. Thus, in IQ 2007 employees received AZN 41.6 thousand as a material aid, while the average wage at BDWJF reached 390.2 AZN, which is AZN 196.4 higher vs. IQ 2006.
At the moment the factory is going to fabricate and install 13,548 tonnes of steel structures on the terms of the contracts concluded with the ordering parties on the basis of the "Steel Structures Fabrication Schedule" approved by the SOCAR President. The plans for the next few years include double enhancement of production, which will result in new job places available.

Recently the factory's volleyball team won the first place in the competition among employees of the oil & gas industry enterprises. BDWJF intends to install a mini sports complex at the territory of the factory and a large sports complex at ‘Sahil' settlement.
The factory won first places at the competition held by the Committee of Oilmen Trade Union under the motto "Worthy work site, safe labor" dedicated to the Oilmen's Day as well as the all-republican competition dedicated to the International Labor Defense Day and was awarded certificates and valuable prizes.
At its own cost the BDWJF keeps erecting the 9-storey 126-partment residential building with total square 11,575 m2 located at the territory of Sahil settlement. Over the year it is scheduled to spend AZN 3,138.2 thousand to complete the building construction and hand the apartments over to the employees waiting for their turn.
"The positive transformations we see are quite assuring, but do not enable us to rest on laurels. Looking back at the results achieved each member of our team is very optimistic about the future. The factory administration, in turn, will do its best to make this confidence everlasting", said Safikhan Mammadov, Director of the Heydar Aliyev Baku Deepwater Jacket Factory.
