HEYDAR ALIYEV BPDP ENHANCES PRODUCTION TO SATISFY CONTEMPORARY MARKET REQUIREMENTS
The idea of establishing a Plant of Deep-Water Platforms in Baku belongs to Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of Azerbaijan. The government of the former Union intended to build the plant in Russia, when the issue about establishing infrastructure for development of oil-extraction in the Caspian Sea was raised in 1970s. However, the plant was founded in Baku in 1978 due to Heydar Aliyev's volition and determination.
The unprecedented economic growth and the active integration of Azerbaijan into Europe allot new tasks before the industrial segment of the country, i.e. to start enterprises according to the world standards. It requires contemporary market conditions that will let Azerbaijani enterprises to compete with the leading European and other international producers. Heydar Aliyev Baku Plant of Deep-Water Platforms (H. Aliyev BPDP) is one of such home industrial plants. Saphikhan Mammadov, the director BPDP shared his views about the perspectives of further development of the enterprise with our readers.
The production facilities of H. Aliyev BPDP permit to produce deep-water platforms intended for the depth of about 200 meters; the productive capacity of the plant comprising 60,000 tons of metal constructions a year which permit to assemble 4-5 blocks of deep-water platform according to the depth of the sea.
The plant was launched in April 1984. The first jacket of the deep-water platform was put into water from the staple of the plant and sent to the point in August, 1985. From 1986 the factory worked to design capacity. Totally, more than 12 sea platforms able to function at the depth of about 141 meters in the sea have been produced at the factory's own expenses and put into water since the beginning of the activity in the staples of BPDP (4 staples at 420 m length each) intended for assembling and putting the bearing blocks of the sea stationary platforms (SSP) into water.
Since 1995, Heydar Aliyev BDWJF was partaking in the operations under the Contract of the Century signed September 20, 1994.
Today BPDP remains a leader in this field in the entire Caspian-Black Sea region without doubt due to its rich work experience in the oil-and-gas industry.
H. Aliyev BPDP is performs the following operations for its customers:
- SSPs for working at the depth of about 200 m.
- Metal constructions for construction, including farms - bearings, logs for the bases of cranes, riggers, junctions between the logs, cross-beams, bunkers, bridge constructions, T-beams, ail-shaped units of different measures, logs of the form of boxes and silos.
- Storage constructions at the volume of about 105,000 m3.
- Vessels of any volume.
- Oil and gas separators intended for 100 atmospheres pressure.
- Metallic pipes with the diameter from 500 mm to 4,500 mm and the density of the wall of about 90 mm.
During 7 months of 2007 the following was fabricated and delivered to customers:
- Frames for car and railway bridges at the length of 72 m each for Georgia.
- Preparation of the frame for the suspension bridge, the construction of which is planned over the Tala River in Zakatala region.
- At the request of foreign companies the company fabricated metal tees and spurs at the diameter of 2,000 mm for construction of Oguz-Gabala-Baku water-pipeline.
- 2 bearing blocks and topsides (total weight 2,674ton) were made in Oil Stones field for SSP #2387 in 2006-2007.
- In total 8,282 tons of steel constructions were produced in the workshops for 7 months of 2007 and delivered to customers.
It is planned to make 13,500 tons of still constructions in 2007.
The integration of independent Azerbaijan with Europe makes the factory's transition to international standards inevitable, it is a core requirement of today. Application of the up-to-date management systems creates real opportunities for the further progress of the plant and achievement of the international level in this field.
H. Aliyev BPDP is collaborating with the world-famous companies, so it was necessary to introduce ISO systems.
The factory has already been certified by the Russian Register under the following ISO international systems:
- ISO 9001:2000 - quality management system;
- ISO 14001:2004 - environment management system;
- OHSAS 18001:1999 - HSE management system;
- Registered in IQNET, the International Certification Register, which facilitates operations on services and purchase and sale in over 37 countries worldwide covered by IQNET International Certification Register
The Russian Register is a member of IQNET and in 2004 was certified at IAF (International Accreditation Forum).
Early this year the factory revised the standard of work in all its structural subunits, processes, work conditions of its employees for improving the quality of products, ecologic safety of its production according to the international standards.
10 new buses have been purchased recently in compliance with ISO standards by BPDP for the convenience of the factory's employees to travel to their working places.
In order to implement SOCAR's action plan drawn on the basis of Azerbaijan's State FEC Development Program 2005-2015, H. Aliyev BPDP purchased an up-to-standard device for ultrasonic and magnetic particle non-destructive testing of welds. The factory's employees pursued courses and received international certificates.
Under the Phase 1, 2 and 3 of the Contract of the Century, huge platforms were built at the premises of BDWJF. The jackets were made together with BosShelf and topsides with McDermott Caspian Contractors Inc. Using highly qualified welders and fitters who gained experience through the work with foreign specialists, the factory timely and in a quality manner fabricated, launched offshore and commissioned jackets for Central Azeri and West Azeri, 14,000 ton each, and a 17,000 ton jacket for East Azeri alongside their respective topsides. Recently the factory fabricated and launched offshore the 15,656 ton topsides of Deepwater Guneshli. A bit earlier, on April 9, 2007 a 190m high jacket with weight 14,500 ton for this platform was delivered to the site.
From the outset of 2007, BPDP fabricated and launched offshore support jackets and other structures for platforms at Absheron Bankasi, Oil Rocks and Darvin Bankasi.
The Plant has started producing welding electrodes of QE 51.01 E 7018 and QE 43.01 E 6013 brands since the beginning of 2007. During 7 months of the year it produced 217 ton of electrodes. 48.8 tons of electrodes have been used for internal needs. The annual production capacity of the workshop is 2,000 tons per annum.
The financial indicators of the plant show the tendency towards growth as well. The cost of the production volume has made 26.7 million manats for 7 months of 2007, against forecasted 20.1 million manats.
Over 1,500 people are working at the enterprise. The administration of SOCAR renders them all-sided assistance for solution of all problems standing before our plant. The salaries and financial support to shehids' (martyrs') families and underprivileged families are increasing every year.
A great attention is given to the sport-cultural leisure of the employees, and the volleyball team of BPDP has taken the first place in the championship among the enterprises of oil-and-gas industry and during the competition among the laborers of Baku. And it is planned to build a mini sport-complex in the territory of the enterprise.
