AZERBAIJAN, TURKMENISTAN READY TO COOPERATE

 

THE PARTIES RESOLVED TURKMEN GAS DEBT ISSUES AND ARE EAGER TO SETTLE THE CASPAIN SEA STATUS

 

After long years of downtime, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are reviving their economic cooperation. The first meeting of Azerbaijani-Turkmen intergovernmental economic cooperation commission (January 17, Ashgabat) ended by signing the bilateral protocol. The parties settled the issue of debts for Turkmen gas supplies to Azerbaijan in 1993-95, discussed extending cooperation in energy industry, and stated the countries’ interest in installing fiber-optic cable between the EU and India/China. In general, mutual relations at the new stage can be considered a new turn of activities. To reach full mutual understanding between the parties, they also shall settle the Caspian national sectors division issue. In the follow-up of the meeting it was clear the parties are close to the solution.

Kazakhstan, with its huge energy deposits, is going to develop energy-saving technology. In this connection, Kazakh PM Karim Masimov assigned studying the possible revisions to the Tax Code in order to stimulate investments in energy-saving technologies. He did not rule out the possibility of increasing the fees for services of natural monopolies from April 1.

SOUTH STREAM STRETCHES TO BULGARIA

 

RUSSIA AND BULGARIA SIGN AGREEMENT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SOUTH STREAM GAS PIPELINE’S SECTION IN BULGARIA

 

Russia has succeeded to convince the Bulgarian authorities to join South Stream Gas Pipeline Project. In turn, Bulgaria was fast to sign South Stream Gas Pipeline Construction Agreement to become the first transit country within the framework of a new strategic route. So, Russia and Bulgaria signed the agreement for construction of South Stream’s section in the Bulgarian territory. The singing procedure took pace January 18 as a part of President Putin’s official visit to Bulgaria.

 

 

AZERBAIJAN READY TO RESUME NATURAL GAS SUPPLIES TO GEORGIA

 

Azerbaijan is ready to resume the natural gas supplies to Georgia. Azerbaijan met all her obligations under the gas supply contract signed with Georgia. To resume gas supplies to Georgia, a new contract shall be signed.
