AZERBAIJAN STARTED FILLING BAKU-TBILISI-ERZURUM GAS PIPELINE
OIL CURRENTLY PUMPED INTO BTC IS 30 KM FROM CEYHAN TERMINAL
Azerbaijan keeps on developing its export oil and gas strategy. Within the next few days Azerbaijan oil will reach Ceyhan terminal. The Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline already receives first gas. AIOC has started gas injection into strata of Azeri field to maintain oil production.

“Analysis of held tax inspections and results of criminal proceedings shows the majority of tax violations are connected with the value added tax. Such operations cause tremendous damage to the state budget. NEW RF AMBASSADOR TO AZERBAIJAN APPOINTED
Vasiliy Nikolayevich Istratov will be a new Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Azerbaijan Republic. Today (May 25) the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed Caspian Energy Investor (CEI), previously Vasiliy Istratov was the Acting Director for North American Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow.
RUSSIA RAMPS UP HYDROCARBON PRODUCTION
The RF Ministry of Industry & Energy has submitted the report “About the current situation with development of industrial production”. In line with the account received by CEI in the RF Ministry of Industry & Energy, according to updated information data of the RF Ministry of Industry & Energy in January-April 2006 production of primary fuel and energy resources comprised 595,8 million tons of equivalent fuel. Within this period production of coal grew by 6,9%, oil by 2,2%, gas by 2,1%, power generation at nuclear power plants by 4,9%.

DESTINY OF MAZEIKIU NAFTA NOT SHAPED YET
PKN Orlen and KazMunayGaz are the main buyers on purchase of the Lithuanian Oil Refinery - Mazeikiu Nafta (MN). Both companies are going to carry out an active investment policy in oil refinery at OR. At the same time Polish PKN Orlen is not going to content itself to purchasing of Yukos’s shares in Mazeikiu Nafta. As for the Lithuanian Premier, Algirdas Brazauskas, he states that the law about nationalization of the petroleum refinery has already been worked out.

OPEC LACKS OF UNANIMITY OF VIEWS ABOUT PRODUCTION QUOTAS
During the conference of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to be held on June 1 in Karakas the countries-members can decide either to reduce oil production or preserve quotas. At the moment OPEC countries doe not have unanimity of views. Experts think oil prices can considerably go down in the middle-range perspective.
