    Against the background of the Russian-Georgian conflict the previous week turned to be especially interesting with respect to the Azerbaijan-Russian cooperation. The numerous visits of top Russian officials and businessmen, the call paid by Elmar Mamedyarov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Moscow show the Russia’s intentions to strengthen its economic interests in the Trans Caucasia.     “Kazakhstan is actively developing several export directions so as to form efficient routes for exportation of Kazakh hydrocarbons. To maintain the existing transport system and development of the transit direction through Russia we carry out work on the CPC oil pipeline expansion project and study expansion of the Atyrau-Samara oil pipeline’s capacity.

    To join new export systems the conditions are being formed to ensure transportation of Kazakh oil through the Caspian Sea to Baku and from there to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline”, Bahtikoja Izmuhambetov, the Minster of Energy & Mineral Resources of Kazakhstan said in the exclusive interview to Caspian Energy Investor.

    Lukoil President Vagit Alekperov visited Baku late last week. Despite large-scale investments the company plans to invest in the profile business, Russian Lukoil still does not view prospects to transport oil from the company’s deposits in the Northern Caspian through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, Vagit Alekperov told at the press conference.
